Unmyelinated nerves in cross section
Unmyelinated nerves usually have small diameters and are not always easily visualized and recognized in sections. Many belong to the autonomic nervous system. As they are unmyelinated, their cytoplasm does not show the reticulated appearance of myelinated nerves.
The nerve perineurium is clearly visible in this image, highlighted in blue. Most nuclei seen inside the nerves belong to Schwann cells and some to endothelial cells of blood capillaries.
