Longitudinal section of a myelinated nerve observed at high magnification. It is possible to observe some details of the nerve fibers of this nerve.
In two of the fibers, hovering the cursor or clicking on the image reveals :
– in blue the myelin sheath.
– in orange segments of the axon.

The arrows – indicate constrictions in the fiber sheath. These are intervals between two consecutive Schwann cells, called nodes or nodules of Ranvier.
