Microglia cells are the smallest glial cells.
When observing a section in a microscope, it is sometimes difficult to pinpoit them if the observer does not know that they are quite small cells.

The outline of the cells is slightly rectangular. They emit few extensions that generally come out at the corners of the rectangles and branch at right angles.
