ENDOCHONDRAL OSSIFICATION – 3
Hover or click on the image to observe some details of this vertebra of the tail of a mouse fetus and the ossification process that is occuring in it:
– Hyaline cartilage of the vertebral epiphyses.
– Epiphyseal discs of the vertebra.
– Medullary canal inside the diaphysis.

The regions where bone has been already produced are highlighted in red:
– The horizontal thick lines indicate the two Zones of ossification of the epiphyseal disc.
– Observe the regions around the diaphysis that form the wall around the vertebra. They are sections of the belt of bone that surrounds the entire middle region of the diaphysis.
