ENDOCHONDRAL OSSIFICATION – 5
The Zone of hypertrophic cartilage of the epiphyseal disc responsible for the growth in length of the vertebra is highlighted in light green.
Cartilage matrix walls that remained after the chondrocytes died are highlighted in dark green. Osteoblasts are settling on these partitions, will secrete bone extracellular matrix, and become osteocytes.
Bone highlighted in red was produced by intramembranous ossification of the vertebra bone collar.
The area occupied by bone marrow is indicated.
