HEMATOPOIESIS

Erythrocytic lineage

Two pairs of erythroblasts entering the stage called orthochromatic erythroblasts.

The word orthochromatic means: of normal coloration or of correct coloration, referring to the coloration of the cytoplasm. This cytoplasm is already similar in color to that of an adult red blood cell. In previous stages the cytoplasm was basophilic (bluish).
This means that the cytoplasm already has the appearance of a mature red blood cell, lacking only the expulsion of the nucleus to complete the process of its formation and release into the blood.

Bone marrow smear. Staining: Leishman. Large magnification.
