CELLS OF THE ERYTHROCYTIC AND GRANULOCYTIC LINEAGES

Granulocytic lineage

Mieloblasto
Large cell with a spherical nucleus of loose, delicate chromatin – meaning it is a fairly undifferentiated or immature cell; slightly basophilic cytoplasm weakly stained.

Young myelocyte
Large cell, with a slightly indented nucleus and denser chromatin than in the previous stage,i.e. more intensely stained; slightly basophilic (blue) cytoplasm containing granules.

Erythrocytic lineage

Polychromatophilic erythroblasts
Small cells with small spherical nuclei of dense chromatin and cytoplasm of an intermediate color between basophilic (bluish) and red blood cell color (pink/orange).
