ENDOCHONDRAL OSSIFICATION – 6
The image shows at a higher magnification details the Zone of ossification in a vertebra’s diaphysis.
Newly formed bone trabeculae, originated by endochondral ossification can be seen in the image.
Observe:
– Remnants of calcified cartilaginous matrix that were partitions between dead chondrocytes at the Zone of hipertrophic cartilage of the diaphysis (highlighted in dark green).
– Clusters of osteoblasts and osteoprogenitor cells placed over partitions of cartilaginous matrix (highlighted in red).
