The area inside the rectangle in the upper figure is shown in higher magnification in the lower figure. This area contains parts of the Zone of hipertrophic cartilage, of Zone of calcified cartilage and Zone of ossification.
Watch in the lower figure:
The Zone of calcified cartilage of the epiphyseal disc highlighted in light green.
The cartilaginous matrix partitions that surround cartilage cells of the epiphyseal disc’s ossification zone are highlighted in dark green. Bone tissue is being deposited over these partitions
As the vertebra grows longitudinally, the bony girdle expands toward the epiphyses.
