ENDOCHONDRAL OSSIFICATION – 5
The area inside the rectangle in the upper figure is shown in higher magnification in the lower figure. This area contains parts of the Zone of hipertrophic cartilage, of Zone of calcified cartilage and Zone of ossification of the vertebra.
Watch in the lower figure:
The Zone of calcified cartilage of the epiphyseal disc highlighted in light green.
The cartilaginous matrix partitions that surround cartilage cells of the epiphyseal disc’s ossification zone are highlighted in dark green.
Bone is being deposited over these partitions.
A large parte of the already produced bone of the vertebra is highlighted in red.
The bone girdle of the vertebra expands toward the epiphyses and consequently the diaphysys grows longitudinally.
