EPIPHYSEAL DISC – 1
Main components of the knee joint:
– the epiphyses of the two bones involved in the knee joint. In this figure they are formed mostly by hyaline cartilage, as this joint was obtained from a very young animal.
– the cartilagenous epiphyseal disk, an extension of the epiphysis disc placed between it and the diaphysis.
– the meniscus placed between the two epiphyses.
– the diaphysis of one of the bones.
– the joint capsule, that lines the joint and helps to hold the bones in correct position.
– striated skeletal muscle surrounding the bone.
– a band of cartilage between the epiphysis and the diaphysis.
