PATTERNS OF ORGANIZATION OF THE LAMELLAE IN THE COMPACT BONE
The lamellae of the lamellar bone are arranged in two main spatial configurations:
– Flat or slightly curved lamellae. Collagen fibers placed in parallel are the major component of a lamella.
– Cylindrical, tube-shaped lamellae, arranged coaxially in sets of 3 to 15 placed one inside the other. Collagen fibers are a major components of collagen plates.
