4-33 Connective tissue

CONNECTIVE TISSUE PROPER – 3
Dense irregular connective tissue
This variety of connective tissue proper contains large amounts of fibrillar extracellular matrix, mainly collagen fibers of varying thicknesses arranged in various directions, besides a variable amounts of elastic and reticular fibrils, but these are not seen with HE staining.
As a result of the amount abd diverse orientation the collagen fibers, this tissue resists well to mechanical pressure and moderate traction in various directions.
The types of resident cells in this type of connective tissue are similar to those found in the loose connective tissue, with a high prevalence of fibroblasts and fibrocytes.

In the image notice the large amount of collagen fibers, some of them highlighted in blue after hovering the cursor or clicking on the image.

Dermis. Staining: HE. Magniffication: medium.
