TRANSIENT CELLS OF THE CONNECTIVE TISSUE – 6
Neutrophils

The figure shows several segmented neutrophils – highlighted in red when you move the cursor over the figure or click on the image.
These are relatively small cells, slightly larger than red blood cells. Their cytoplasm is lightly stained. Their nucleus is lobulated. Observe the small lobes of their nuclei.
A band (young) neutrophil can be seen whose nucleus is shaped like a letter “C”. It becomes highlighted in purple when you click on the image or place the cursor.
Plasmocytes become highlighted in green and lymphocytes in blue. The plasma cell indicated by the arrow displays a typical nucleus with clumps of chromatin, and in the cytoplasm, a less stained region that is probably complex.

Inflammatory infiltrate. Staining: HE. Magnification: high.
