NERVES – 7
The image is of a preparation obtained by initially dissecting a small nerve. Then, observing the nerve through a binocular microscope, its fibers were separated with a very fine needle.
The myelin was demonstrated using special techniques, and the fibers were arranged on a histological slide.
Therefore, this is an image of whole nerve fibers seen through transparency, not a longitudinal section. Some fibers are highlighted in red when the cursor is hovered over them.
At the locations indicated by arrows, a constriction of the fibers is noticeable. This is the space between two Schwann cells called the Ranvier node. The presence of this interval is characteristic of nerve fibers of the peripheral nervous system.
Nerve, total preparation. Staining for myelin.Medium magnification.
