PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
NERVES – 7
NERVES – 7
A small nerve was dissected under a binocular microscope. Its nerve fibers were separated using very fine needles and stained to demonstrate myelin.
Nerve fibers highlighted in red. Axons are not seen in this preparation.
Notice constrictions along the fibers, some of them indicated by arrows. They are very small gaps between neighbor Schwann cells, the Ranvier nodes. They are typical of peripheral nervous system nerve fibers.
Nerve fibers, total preparation. Stained to demonstrate myelin. Medium magnification.
