CELLS OF THE NERVOUS TISSUE

NEUROGLIA – 4

FIBROUS ASTROCYTES – 1

Fibrous astrocytes have fewer cell processes than protoplasmic astrocytes. Their processes are longer, thinner, and less highly branched, making the cell bodies easier to distinguish.
Fibrous astrocytes are found predominantly in the white matter of the central nervous system, whereas protoplasmic astrocytes are more abundant in the gray matter.
