Protoplasmic astrocytes have numerous short, highly branched processes that extend in many directions and are closely packed together. Their processes are difficult to distinguish individually at this magnification and will be easier to recognize on the following page.
The thin lines visible throughout the tissue are mainly neuronal processes, whereas the thicker structures are blood capillaries.
