INTRAMEMBRANOUS OSSIFICATION – 4

Two small bone trabeculae and part of a third one placed at the upper border of the image at a more advanced stage of intramembranous ossification of a mesenchymal membrane (bone matrix highlighted in orange). These small stretches of trabeculae coalesce to constitute trabecular bone.
Several osteocytes are present inside the bone matrix (highlighted in green). Osteoblasts and osteoprogenitor cells line the external and internal surfaces of the trabeculae.

Intramembranous ossification. Staining: HE. Medium magnification.
