7-9 BONE

THE ARRANGEMENT OF THE OSTEOCYTES IN THE BONE – 1
The figures show some of the main important features that characterize non-lamellar and lamellar bone.

The two upper figures show non-lamellar bone. Its collagen fibers run in many directions and the osteocytes are irregularly disposed throughout the bone extracellular matrix.

In the lamellar bone, the collagen fibers are organized and each set of fibers forms a bone lamella. In each lamella, the fibers are parallel. From lamella to lamella, they form diverse angles. The figure shows three bone lamellae. The osteocytes are arranged in a regular manner between the bone lamellae.
