At a higher magnification, observe the large single drop of fat inside the cells and the thin strip of cytoplasm at their periphery. Nuclei of adipose cells can be observed, depending on the level of sectioning. One of the nuclei can be seen highlighted in blue after using the mouse or clicking on the upper image.
The upper image is of a very thin section of adipose tissue embedded in a plastic resin and stained with toluidine blue. The lower image is from a paraffin section stained with hematoxylin and eosin.
