SIMPLE SQUAMOUS EPITHELIUM – 1
This epithelium consist of a single layer of flat, tile-like cells.
The cells are very thin and for this reason it is often difficult to observe their cytoplasm in cross-sections of the epithelium.
The nuclei of the cells of this type of epithelium are generally elongated or elliptical. As they are thicker than the cytoplasm they protrude from the surface of the cell.
The epithelial layer is separated from the connective tissue by a basement lamina.
