Neutrophils – 2
The upper figure shows a cell slightly larger than a red blood cell. Its cytoplasm is clear, and no very evident granules are observed.
Its nucleus is C-shaped and has clumps of chromatin. Hover your cursor over the image to highlight the nucleus.
This is a band neutrophil. It is a “younger neutrophil” not fully mature. These neutrophils are normally found in varying amounts in the blood and its nucleus will become segmentated as they “mature”.
The lower figurs shows a neutrophyl whose nucleus has a constriction (arrow). Its cytoplasm has pink granules.
This is a band neutrophil whose nycleus seems to be undergoing constrictions and, therefore, this neutrophil is more “mature” than the cell of the upper figure and seems to be developing into a mature, segmented neutrophil.
