PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
NERVES – 6
NERVES – 6
Longitudinal nerve sections.
In the upper figure: two nerve fascicles separated by a layer of connective tissue.
In the lower figure, at a higher magnification, notice along the fibers a large amount of clear spaces that contained myelin dissolved during the tissue preparation.
Thin stretches of lines inside the fibers (pointed by arrows) are segments of axons.
Longitudinal nerve sections can be confused with smooth muscle tissue or dense regular connective tissue. Review these tissues and compare them with nerves.
