9-4 Nervous tissue

CELLS OF THE NERVOUS TISSUE
NEURONS – 3
Several multipolar neurons can be seen in the image. Their cell bodies and processes are highlighted in green. The spherical nuclei are highlighted in light blue, and their nucleoli in dark blue.

Notice that the axon often originates from a cone-shaped or pyramidal region of the neuronal cell body called the axon hillock. The axon hillock forms a transition between the cell body and the axon and can often be identified by its characteristic shape and by the absence of Nissl substance.

Nervous ganglion. Staining: HE. Medium magnification.
