RESIDENT CELLS OF THE CONNECTIVE TISSUE – FIBROBLAST AND FIBROCYTE – 4
Fibrocytes are quiescent or resting fibroblasts that When required may return to their secretory activity and be recognized as fibroblasts.
They may be recognazied in sections because their nuclei are strongly stained less stained, unlike active fibroblasts whose nuclei are less stained.
In this image, a fibroblast and a fibrocyte. Compare their nuclei, as they are the always visible:
Fibroblast: less stained nuclei by hematoxylinas they have a looser chromatin in which some components can be distinguished.
Fibrocyte: thinner nucleus, with dense chromatin, heavily stained, somewhat sharper ends of the nucleus.

Nuclei highlighted in light-blue, a few collagen fibers in yellow.
