They show a sequence of transformations of cartilage cells that at the end of the disk are replaced by bone cells and bone tissue.<br \/>\nObserving the disc from the epiphysis toward the diaphysis each Region or Zone is seen to undergo a (subtle) transition to the next and for this reason the boundaries between the zones are precise. <\/p>\n<p><strong>From the epiphysis toward the diaphysis the following Zones form the epiphyseal disk:  <\/strong><br \/>\n1 &#8211; Zone of resting cartilage<br \/>\n2 &#8211; Zone of proliferation<br \/>\n3 &#8211; Zone of hypertrophic cartilage<br \/>\n4 &#8211; Zone of calcification<br \/>\n5 &#8211; Zone of ossification<br \/>\nThe first four zones are made of cartilaginous tissue and the last zone of newly produced bone tissue.<br \/>\nThe zones will be described in detail on the next pages.<\/p>\n<p> <\/div><\/div>\n  <div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-2\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">  <\/p>\n<div onclick>\n<div class=\"image-container\">\n<div class=\"extra\">\n<a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\" https:\/\/mol-en.icb.usp.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/7-26.jpg \" onmouseover=\"this.src=' https:\/\/mol-en.icb.usp.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/7-26-MO-en.jpg'\" onmouseout=\"this.src=' https:\/\/mol-en.icb.usp.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/7-26.jpg'\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Zones of the Epiphyseal disc seen in a longitudinal section of the bone.
