This arrangement provides a great resistance toward tensile forces.<br \/>\nVery elongated fibroblasts and fibrocytes are placed between the collagen fibers. However, usually the only visible component of these cells are their nuclei, as the cytoplasm is very thin and stains similarly as collagen after using hematoxylin and eosin.<\/p>\n<p>The image shows a longitudinally sectioned tendon. Thick, parallel collagen fibers form most of its tissue.
