{"id":15145,"date":"2025-10-06T17:30:22","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T20:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mol-en.icb.usp.br\/?page_id=15145"},"modified":"2026-09-08T15:35:38","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T18:35:38","slug":"7-8-bone","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mol-en.icb.usp.br\/index.php\/7-8-bone\/","title":{"rendered":"7-8 Bone"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"su-row\">\n<div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-1\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\"><strong>ARRANGEMENT OF OSTEOCYTES IN BONES &#8211; 1<\/strong> <\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"su-row\">\n<div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-2\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<p><strong> Two types of bones can be recognized according to the arrangement of osteocytes and collagen fibers:<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>a) Non-lamellar bone, also called primary or immature bone<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThis type is always the first to form. It develops initially during fetal life and is gradually replaced by <strong>lamellar bone<\/strong> during the construction of the skeleton .<br \/>\nAfter birth it may be produced during <strong>bone growth, bone remodeling and bone repair<\/strong> and in places where. Non-lamellar bone is found constantly in few places of adults where bone remodeling is normally active, one example are the  dental alveoli that support the teeth, where continuously bone remodelation occurs.<br \/>\n<strong>b) Lamellar bone also called secondary, or mature bone<\/strong>. This type of bone is the predominant type in healthy adults.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The main differences between non-lamellar and lamellar bone reside in the organization of their collagen fibers and osteocytes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In non-lamellar bone<\/strong> collagen fibers are arranged irregularly in many directions. Osteocytes are irregularly distributed among collagen fibers. This type contains more cells per bone volume than the lamellar bone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In lamellar bone the collagen fibers are highly organized in parallel forming layers called bone lamellae<\/strong>. Fibers within  each lamella are arranged in parallel to each other. However, in adjacent lamellae, the collagen fibers maintain an angle in relation to the fibers of their neighbor lamellae (similarly to the fibers of wood plates in plywood). This type of bone has fewer osteocytes per bone volume and they are regularly disposed between the lamellae.<br \/>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-2\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\nThe figures show some of main features of both types of bones.<br \/>\nTop left: non-lamellar bone.
