Many of these proteins are digestive enzymes.<br \/>\nIn order to synthesize these proteins the pancreatic acinar cells are endowed with an abundant <strong>granular endoplasmic reticulum<\/strong> (ergastoplasm). It is concentrated in the <strong>basal region of each acinar cell<\/strong>, close to the basal lamina and stains blue-violet by a mixture of eosin and hematoxylin that will appear highlighted in dark blue in some of the cells.<br \/>\nThe ergastoplasm surrounds partially the round nuclei located in the basal region of the cells. Some of them appear highlighted in light blue. Many contain a prominent nucleolus.<br \/>\nThe secretion produced by the cells is accumulated in <strong>secretory grains<\/strong> accumulated in the apical region of the cells.
