It is surrounded by parts of neighbouring acini.<br \/>\nSee how its secretory cells stay very close together to form a small ovoid structure and to organize themselves into ana acinus.  Imagine that this structure is, in fact, three-dimensional.<br \/>\nThe acinar cells are <strong>columnar or pyramidal<\/strong>. Some become highlighted by a black outline. Place and remove the mouse several times to recognize the shape of these as well of the other acinar cells. The lumens of the acini are not readibly seen, some are highlighted in green.<br \/>\nThe nuclei have prominent nucleoli, a sign that the cells are actively synthesising of molecules, in this case mainly enzymes.<br \/>\nBesides the acini the pancreas contains little endocrine called <strong>islets of Langerhans<\/strong> or <strong>pancretic islands<\/strong>.
