Esophagus – 4
The transition between the esophagus and the stomach mucosa is abrupt. It is characterized by the replacement of the noncornified stratified squamous epithelium of the esophagus by the simple columnar epithelium of the stomach.
The stomach mucosa has small indentations called gastric pits or gastric foveolae.
