Neutrophils – 2
The upper figure shows a cell slightly larger than a red blood cell. Its cytoplasm is clear, and no very evident granules are observed.
Its nucleus is C-shaped – hover your cursor over the image to highlight the nucleus. It has clumps of chromatin inside.
This is a band neutrophil. It is a “younger neutrophil” not fully mature. These neutrophils are normally found in varying amouts in the blood and its nucleus will become segmentated as they become “mature”.
The lower figurs shows a neutrophyl whose nucleus has a constriction – see the arrow. Its cytoplasm has pink granules.
This is a band neutrophil whose nycleus seems to be undergoing constrictions and, therefore, this neutrophil is transforming into a segmented neutrophil.
