Erythrocytes or Red blood cells
These cells are anucleated. Their color in smears can vary from pink to grayish.
Red blood cells have the shape of a biconcave disc. They are therefore thinner in their central region, which is why this portion is less stained. Their diameter under normal conditions is fairly constant, at about 7 micrometers.
